How does reading a set of poems entirely composed of questions impact you as a reader?
Reading questions—particularly questions as abstract and surreal as many of Neruda's—compels a reader to imagine the answers. Since so many of these questions are somewhat surreal, fanciful, or absurd, Neruda is asking his readers to imagine the world they inhabit in a new way, to push against the idea of reality to which they are most accustomed. He's also framing his thought as questions: the speaker of the poems himself doesn't seem to know the answers; rather, he wants to open up the boundaries of his ideas.
