Tewfiq
Tewfiq has told Dina that he has a wife and son back home. Ironically, we learn that they have both committed suicide. His son, he believes, took his life because of the lack of relationship between father and son. And his wife ended her life due to the heartbreak of losing her son.
Fate
Tewfiq goes to the park with Dina after dinner where he explains to her the type of music the band plays by singing and conducting for her. Dina cannot understand all of the Arabic lyrics to the song Tewfiq sings; ironically, she is captivated by him and believes his coming to Bet Hatikva was destiny for her.
Papi
Papi has been set up on a double date to go out with the woman he has a crush on. Ironically, Papi ignores her as he is consumed by the anxiety within him about being with her that he is petrified to speak to her or interact with her.
Phone
The band needs to call the Egyptian embassy to inform them that they took the wrong bus and their performance may be delayed. Ironically, getting to the payphone--the only one in the town--is easier said than done. A waits by the payphone, obsessively guarding it day and night, as he waits for his girlfriend to call him...even though she hasn't reached out to him in several months.
Bet Hatikva
Haled asks the clerk at the bus station for tickets to Petah Tikvah for the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra to travel to. Ironically, he's given tickets to Bet Hatikva because with his Hebrew accent the clerk, who is Egyptian misinterpreted what was said. This sends them off where they are not meant to go.
