Stuttering
Tewfiq stutters when Dina asks him to describe what it's like to perform in his orchestra for people. But when he sings and conducts he no longers sputters along but is fluid in his ability to communicate without words. The imagery shares with us how music connects Tewfiq to the world and people in a way his words have never been able to serve him.
Lullaby
Itzik sings to his son and his wife storms out of the house because she feels he has a lack of ambition. The imagery reveals that Itzik's ambition lies with his family and not in the material nature of the world—a hope his wife wishes he had.
Waiting
We watch as the telephone guy has waited throughout the play for his girlfriend to call which has become months at this point when we meet his character. The imagery reveals the painful necessity for endurance in order to maintain the hope that love will once again return to one's life.
Isolation
Tewfiq tells Dina about the deaths of his son and wife at the end of the play. What is created by his candor about their ending their lives is that it reveals within the imagery of his character why he has been hesitant and not fully invested with Dina. He believes that he has only caused pain to those he loves.
