Shaun Tan is an Australian artist, writer, and Academy Award-winning filmmaker.
Born in Fremantle, Western Australia, Tan grew up in Perth and is now based in Melbourne. He is best known for authoring books illustrated with his signature dream-like imagery, which blends the familiar and fantastical.
Tan has received dozens of awards, and his work has been adapted into plays, musical performances, operas, and the Oscar-winning short animated film The Lost Thing. In 2011, he won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, considered the biggest prize in children's literature.
