Although they are half brothers, Tom and Sid are very different characters. They act differently, they have different motivations, and they are viewed, and treated, differently by adults. Briefly compare and contrast Tom and Sid.
There are several points that should be brought up in this discussion.
- Tom and Sid have different motivations. Sid wants to make Aunt Polly proud, and does what she tells him to do. Tom is motivated by a desire for adventure, glory, and fun. He follows his own inclinations.
- Sid is a tattle tale, and always informs Aunt Polly what Tom is up too. For most of the novel, Tom never informs the authorities on anyone, even his enemies.
