In contrast to the Walt Disney adaptation, Pinocchio is not a habitual liar in the book (indeed, he is deceived more often than he deceives). The scene in the Fairy's home marks the one glaring exception where he lies prolifically. In another difference, Pinocchio immediately learns here that lying can be harmful and embarrassing to him, and that it should therefore be avoided.
