Bartholomew Cubbins
He is the main protagonist of the story and a young boy with an obsession with hats. He is ordered by King Derwin to remove his hat but in its place is another hat and so on. Many people try to fix the issue and take off his hat but are unsuccessful. Each hat becomes more and more exotic, and dressed with fine jewels.
Grand Duke Wilfred
He is the main antagonist of the story. He tries to have Bartholomew’s head chopped off in order to take the hat off his head but is unsuccessful. He then tries to push him off the turret in a fit of jealousy when he realizes how beautiful his jeweled ostrich hat is, but is stopped by King Derwin.
