Answer

(d) is the correct answer.

Work Step by Step

The apparent weight of a passenger in an elevator is greater than his true weight. In other words, $F_N\gt mg$ and can be explained by the fact that the elevator is accelerating, which increases the normal force on the passenger: $$F_N=mg+ma$$ There are 2 situations which can lead to that: 1) $F_N-mg=ma$ or the elevator is accelerating upward 2) $mg-F_N=-ma$ or the elevator is moving downward but it is decelerating So (d) is the correct answer.
