Chapter 11 - Fluids - Focus On Concepts - Page 307: 9

Answer

$\therefore \text{Object will sink}$

Work Step by Step

Data:- $M_{object}$ = 3.00 Kg $M_{\text{fluid displaced}}$ = 2.00 Kg To find:- $$F_{B} \text{ = ?}$$ Definition:- Fluid applies buoyant force to those objects which are completely or partially submerged in the liquid. The magnitude of applied buoyant Force is equal to the weight of the fluid that the object has displaced. Formula:- $$F_{B} = W_{Fluid}$$ Solution:- $F_{B}$ = $W_{Fluid}$ $F_{B}$ = $M_{\text{fluid displaced}}$$\times$g = 2$\times$9.8 =19.6 N $F_{B}$ = 19.6 N Since, $W_{Object}$ = $M_{object}\times$g $W_{object}$ = 3$\times$9.8 $W_{object}$ = 29.4 N $W_{object}$ $\gt$ $F_{B}$ Therefore, the object will Sink.
