We know that according to right hand rule when the fingers of our right hand follow the rotation, we extend the thumb which gives us the direction of the angular velocity. Supposing that we hold a globe with our right hand, the earth rotates from west to east so when we follow rotation with our fingers, our thumb points towards north. Hence, the angular velocity points north.
