Chapter 27, Animal Systems I - 27.3 - Circulation - 27.3 Assessment - Page 793: 3

Answer

A closed circulatory system has a fast flowing blood and efficient delivery of oxygen to body cells. In the absence of a closed circulatory system, blood flow will be slow, which can cause problems for large animals. Hence large animals would not have succeeded in the absence of a closed circulatory system.
