The marine iguana has the same needs as the bony marine fish we’ve seen in this chapter, which must be able to protect against water loss in an environment of high ion concentration. It also needs to continue to keep the correct water balance when it is not in salt water, however, since it lives most of its life on land. As such, it has the adaptations necessary for both land and marine osmoregulation.
