Chapter 2 - Section 2.4 - Organic Compounds - Before You Go On - Page 73: 19

Answer

all proteins are polypeptides but not all polypeptides are proteins because polypeptides do not need to perform a biological or biochemical function like proteins do. Proteins have functional use while polypeptides sometimes have no functional use. You could string a lot of amino acids together and call it a polypeptide, but it may not have any use and therefore wouldn't be a protein. All proteins are polypeptides, but not all polypeptides are proteins.
