Answer

Vitamin A is used by the body to produce retinal. Retinal is an important component of visual pigments. Retinal combines with a protein, opsin, to form the visual pigment in photoreceptors, which absorb the light rays coming into our eye. Without vitamin A, the visual pigments cannot be produced, which will eventually lead to blindness.
