Chapter 8 - Special Senses - Review Questions - Page 331: 11

Answer

Tarsal glands are modified sebaceous glands. They are present in the inner margin of eyelids. They secrete lipid rich substances that provide lubrication and prevent eyelids from sticking. Ciliary glands are sweat glands, and they are also present in the inner margin of eyelids, just in front of tarsal glands. These glands secrete a lipid based substance, which covers the tear film of the eye and prevents evaporation.
