Chapter 5 - The Skeletal System - Review Questions - Page 206: 36

Answer

Foramens are openings in the skeletal structure that allow other structures to pass through and connect to different parts of the body. Foramen magnum: It is an oval shaped opening found at the bottom of the skull. It is present in the occipital bone of the skull. It acts as a bridge between vertebral space and the cranial cavity. It allows the passage of the spinal cord and the vascular supply of the brain. Obturator foramen: This is a part of both hips. It is oval shaped and formed by the posterior ischium and the ramus of the pubis. The lower limbs’ vascular supply and nerves pass through them.
