Chapter 4 - Decimals - 4.4 Multiplying Decimal Numbers - 4.4 Exercises - Page 295: 58

Answer

The decimal place is moved one to the left.

Work Step by Step

We first perform all of the multiplication: $$ (.538)(.1) =.0538 \\ (10.5)(.1)=1.05 \\ (58)(.1)=5.8 \\ (4.95)(.1)=.495 \\ (.9)(.1)=.09 \\ (300)(.1)=30$$ We see that when multiplying by .1, the decimal place is moved one to the left. If multiplying by .01, the decimal place is moved two to the left. If multiplying by .001, the decimal place is moved 3 to the left.
