Chapter 4 - Decimals - 4.4 Multiplying Decimal Numbers - 4.4 Exercises - Page 295: 57

Answer

The decimal place is moved one place to the right.

Work Step by Step

We first multiply all of the numbers: $$(.538)(10)=5.38 \\ (10.5)(10) =105 \\ (7)(10)=70 \\ (4.95)(10)=49.5 \\ (.9)(10)=9 \\ (14.34)(10)=143.4 $$ We see that when you multiply a number by 10, the decimal place is moved one to the right. If multiplying by 100, the decimal place will be moved two to the right, and if multiplying by 1000, the decimal place will be moved three to the right.
