Chapter 6 - Systems of Equations and Inequalities - 6-3 Solving Systems Using Elimination - Practice and Problem-Solving Exercises - Page 379: 36

Answer

(-0.5, 2)

Work Step by Step

Our two equations are: 1. x+y=1.5 2. 2x+y=1 We do not have to multiply the equations by anything and we can start elimination because both equations have y. So lets subtract the second equation from the first equation. We get: -x=0.5 Divide by -1 on both sides. We get: x=-0.5 We know the x value so now plug 0.5 as the x value in the first equation to get our y value. -0.5+y=1.5 Add 0.5 to both sides and we get the value for y. y=2 So our answer is (-0.5, 2)
