Fritz Leiber is one of the most prolific fantasy authors of the 20th century. His collection of short stories entitled Swords Against Death, which was published in 1970 by Ace Books, is one of the author's best-known and most interesting novels. Comprised of ten separate short stories, the novel collectively tells the story of The Fafhrd and Gray Mouser, who travel across the fantastical world of Newhon together. Specifically, each short story in the novel follows the duo after they have left Lankhmar, their loved ones dead. In the second story of the novel titled "Jewels in the Forest," for instance, the two embark on a quest to get treasure from a unique place with even more unique defenses. In the penultimate story entitled "The Price of Pain-Ease," the duo investigates a shop that is different than it appears to be on the outside looking in.
Leiber's novel was incredibly popular when it was published and remains so to this day. In fact, Leiber's novel spawned an equally successful novel (written by another novel), entitled Swords Against the Shadowland. That novel is a prequel to Swords Against Death.
