The Irony of Travis' Sales Pitch

As the CEO of a startup company that needs funding, Travis' biggest job is to reach out to potential investors and ask them to invest in Uber. However, during his sales pitch, he overemphasizes the role he played in creating Uber. And people, including to some extent the person who is ultimately responsible for creating much of the company, ironically believe him.

The Irony of Uber's Funding

During his sales pitches, Travis is sometimes downright rude and oftentimes plays hard-to-get with potential investors. Despite this, he is ironically wildly succesful in securing funding for his company and potential investors are not turned off by his behavior.

Uber

For most of its life as a company, Uber has not turned a profit. However, it is valued as a multibillion dollar company that countless people eagerly invested in.

UberCab

Originally, Uber was called "UberCab." After some trouble with regulators, however, Ubercab was renamed to simply "Uber." Fundamentally, this is ironic because Uber is not - as has really never been considered to be - a cab company. It is a technology company.

Money

Travis needed money for his company. However, he was ironically unwilling to work with Venture Capitalists after a bad experience at his previous company, Scour - this despite the fact that the venture capitalists have some of the most money in the world and are people most willing to invest a company.
