“Sunny Prestatyn” begins when a poster is hung in a city. The poster itself is highly provocative, inviting people to have a vacation in Prestatyn though the picture of a young sexual model. She had “breast lifting arms”, shows of her “thighs” and a coast is behind her as “a hotel with palms / Seems to expand from her thighs.” It is as if the poster is saying to men that, if you go to Prestatyn, you’ll get a girl like her.
To girls it might be saying that if you go to Prestatyn, you could become as beautiful as her. In the second verse, the poster is violated. Her body and face alike have been drawn over; “snaggle-toothed and boss-eyed”, with “huge tits.” It then goes on to explain the “fissured crotch” that is “scored well in”. Between her legs there is a “tuberous crotch and balls”. It is as if the girl has been raped. This might be a metaphor for what happens to girls; as they aspire to become something that promises a bright future, beauty and happiness, their fortunes will hold hidden lies and disasters.
In the end, the poster is ripped off, after the poster is stabbed through with a knife. It might be a reflection of death; as the girl is no longer beautiful, she is no longer fit for society and is taken away, no longer wished upon. The girl is stated being “too good for the city”. A new image is hung, one that says, “Fight Cancer”. The reader might reflect and ponder; will this one last longer?
