Sunny Prestatyn Background

Sunny Prestatyn Background

Sunny Prestatyn” is one of the poems in Philip Larkin’s poetry volume called The Whitsun Weddings, which is a collection of 32 poems published in the United Kingdom by Faber and Faber. The poem was believed to be first published in 1964, though there have been various other published later on. In the original version, “Sunny Prestatyn” is the twenty-forth poem in the collection.

Philip Larkin is most known for his poetry, though he also wrote books and was a librarian. He was born in 1922 and died in 1985. In his poems, he characteristically combined daily life events to show deep meanings, such as he did in “Sunny Prestatyn” which is about a poster that is destroyed when hung up in a town, thus showing the disgrace and brutal ways humans disrespect others work. It is stated that the girl on the poster was too good for the town.
