David
David is the main protagonist of the novel who witnesses his father getting murdered by Steelheart. Such an event sparks his obsession with studying the Epics and plotting revenge against the murderous tyrant, which he plans to fulfill by joining the Reckoners.
Megan
Megan is a member of the Reckoners who joined them not long before David. Nevertheless, she proved more than capable of justifying her position with strength and bravery. She also keeps a secret that might have in some way contributed to her extraordinary performance in the Reckoners' missions in eliminating the Epics.
Prof
Prof is the leader of the Reckoners and the one who provides them with the weapons which emulate the Epics' powers. He is the one who will be taking on the role of the fake Epic Limelight in order to fight Steelheart. There is more to his characters than it is shown, and his truth is revealed at the very end.
Abraham
Abraham is the member of the Reckoners and member of what they call the Faithfuls-believers in a possibility of a good Epic existing who is ready to fight for the humanity, who is ready to take on the role of a hero.
Cody
Cody is a member of the Reckoners who provides humorous breaks in the novel. He likes to joke about his heritage, primarily Scottish mixed with whatever comes to his mind in the moment of making a joke about it.
Tia
Tia is a member of the Reckoners who appears to be very close to Prof, knowing more about him than the rest. She is responsible for leading the missions and finding escape routes for the members.
Steelheart
Steelheart is one of the most powerful known Epics, who decided to take over Newcago ten years ago-when he killed David's father. His appearance is something close to what one would stereotypically link to a hero, but he is far from that. He is an egoistical tyrant who wants his subjects to live in fear of him.
Nightwielder
Nightwielder is Steelheart's partner and bodyguard. His power allows him to keep the entire city in darkness for the past ten years.
Conflux
Conflux is Steelhearts head of police and is considered a high epic. After the Reckoners kidnap him, they find out that Conflux was being used as a power slave and is actually quite friendly.
