Peternip
He is shown to be an RAF pilot who is harassed by the gremlins as they try to destroy his plane. He is aghast by their behavior and complains of it at many points of the story. He is also shown to be desperate to save as many human lives, by piloting them out of the bomb zone.
Gremlins
The gremlins are shown to the original leaders of the Earth. They lived life happily until the humans came along and took over. The gremlins were forced to go into hiding as a result. However, they became angry at this turn of events and so throughout centuries, tried to make their return. They try to sabotage the humans in their war efforts by destroying essential machinery and weapons.
Humans
Humans are mainly shown through the soldiers who are fighting with each other. Humans are depicted as being weak willed and greedy, hence the reason for all the wars. At first, the gremlins felt threatened by them, but after a few world wars had passed and humans hadn’t stopped fighting, the gremlins realized that humans would end up killing themselves – which proves to be true by the end of the book.
