Sacrifice for Good

Despite their young ages Nita and Kit showed unusual courage in all their dealings. They sacrificed their time, normal teenage years, and even their lives to fight the lone power. They risked their lives trying to retrieve the bright book getting chased down by brutal man-eating helicopters and taxis. They had to bribe the eldest of the fireworms by exchanging the dark book for the bright one. When the lone power extinguished the moonlight they required for reading the bright book, Fred sacrificed himself to produce light. Fred, the white hole sapient knew how much was at stake if they did not read the book in time to save Manhattan and therefore acted fast. Taking it upon themselves to save their town was an uphill task not meant for children their age, but they executed it successfully nonetheless.

Compassion for Offenders

It was only expected that Nita and Kit having all that power would want to plot revenge against their bullies however they do not retaliate. The kind of compassion and kindness they showed was impressive. It is very hard to choose not to revenge when those bullies had intimidated them for so long. When they finally captured the lone power, they gave it an option to become positive energy instead of destroying it. The lone power had threatened to destroy their town and even had Fred killed in the process so they should have just killed it. They showed maturity and forgiveness that even most adults would find hard to show. We live in a world where nothing goes unpunished and if somebody did you wrong you fight back but that was not Nita and Kit. They showed mercy and compassion all through.

Team Effort

Team effort is shown through Nita, Kit and Fred working together to keep lone power from destroying their town. Everything they did required working together otherwise it would have not worked. Nita and Kit jointly create a new spell to help to retrieve Nita’s pen through which they were able to see the threat lurking around their town. In retrieving the bright book, they also create a spell that lets Fred takes them to the other world through worldgates. Kit plays the part of getting them rides and bargaining for their lives since he can talk to unalive things like cars to give them a ride on their journey. Fred offers himself to provide light for the reading of the bright book that enabled them to save Manhattan. The city would have not been saved without either of them as each had a part to play.

Use of magic

The whole book talks about the use of magic to counter the dangers that threaten their livelihood. Nita takes an oath that makes her a wizard. Together with Kit, they create a spell to retrieve Nita’s pen that had been taken by the bullies. They knew they were no match for the bullies and therefore used magic in getting the pen back. They used magic for good courses and not for their selfish gains, unlike the lone power. The lone power used its magic to extinguish the moonlight that was helping them read the bright book. Fred used its magic to make a light that would enable them to read thereby losing his life in the process. They used magic to make lone power positive energy rather than destroying it completely. They gave it a chance to redeem itself hence withdrawing from their world.
