Nita Callahan

Nita is the protagonist of the novel, So You Want to Be a Wizard. Nita is a forlorn 13-year-old girl who gets it tough at school. Nita is bullied and beaten up by her classmates. Nita has no friends to stand by at school when she is humiliated. Nita thinks the only way she can prevent others from bullying her is to get power.

One day, Nita runs away from her bullies and goes to the library. While at the library, she comes across a book about the process of becoming a wizard and develops an interest in reading it. She borrows the book and goes home with it. She reads the books and masters the tactics of having magical powers. When she wakes up in the morning, Nita discovers that she has magical powers and can talk with trees. Trees tell Nikita that there is another Wizard nearby called Kit. Nita befriends Kit, and they start practicing how to cast spells. When she returns to school, Nita thwarts her.

Kit (Christopher K. Rodriguez)

Kit is a wizard, and he has practiced casting spells for a long time. When Nita becomes a wizard for the first time, she meets Kit, and they form a friendship and a bond that helps her to understand how the magical world works. When Nita returns to school, Kit helps her frustrate her bullies. Kit also introduces Nita to other wizards.

Fred

When Kit and Nita cast their first spell, a white hole falls to earth, called Fred, and reveals himself to be one of the senior wizards who has come to help Nita and Kit to explore the magical world. Fred is powerful and can lead Kit and Nita into the dark and light forces of the magical world.

The Lone Power

The Lone Power is the antagonist of the novel. The Lone Power deviated from his earlier role, and he created death. Therefore, he is a threat to the magical creatures. There is a conflict between the magical light creatures and the Lone Power. For the magical creatures to live to eternity, they must destroy the Lone Power.
