The symbolism of family wrangles

The symbolism of family wrangles is depicted in Pops' story, where there is a father-son wrangle. After many years, the son meets his estranged father, and they disagree in every aspect of their lives. The father and son fail to connect because they are strangers. The author uses this symbolism to signify the importance of fathers being present in their sons. The Father-son relationship is built throughout the son's life.

New York

The author figuratively uses New York to represent the destiny shaper. Most of the characters in this novel are young people discovering themselves and trying to run away from the regions of the Big Apple, which are not friendly to marginalized groups. The urge for young people trying to escape from New York signifies the difficult city life where opportunities are limited. However, the bottom line is that the teens learned their lessons and emerged stronger.

Coming of Age

The young male characters striving to realize their purpose to achieve full potential symbolize the coming of age. The reader realizes that these young male characters are disadvantaged because they come from marginalized backgrounds. Consequently, the author is trying to show how difficult it is for young people from marginalized communities to make it in New York.
