Slapboxing with Jesus Irony

Slapboxing with Jesus Irony

The irony of parenting

The reader finds it paradoxical that Rob's parents abandoned him when he was a young child. The responsibility of parents is to take care of their children and guide them to be self-reliant. Unfortunately, Rob grows alone and becomes a prostitute when he becomes an adult.

The people around Sammy

The behaviour of people around Sammy is sarcastic because instead of making him feel like a normal person, they make him feel useless. Sammy knows that he has a mental illness, and he would like to live like an ordinary man. Unfortunately, the people around him make him feel inferior.

The satire of police

The responsibility of the police is to safeguard people regardless of their race, gender or nationality. Ironically, the police in New York streets are doing exactly the opposite. The police are brutal and discriminate against the male Latinos who live in America.

The paradox of the title

The title ‘Slapboxing with Jesus' is satirical because, in the actual case, it depicts disharmony and torture. Ironically, 'Jesus' is linked to brutality in New York directed towards minority groups. "Jesus' is a figure that symbolizes equality, but that is not the case in this story.
