Skipping Christmas Character List

Luther

He is the husband of Nora and together they have a daughter named Blair. Luther is unfriendly and stingy with money and that is why he tries to avoid Christmas to cut down costs. He is easily irritated and gets grumpy at everything. He does not think the Christmas celebration should be worth spending all that time and money on. Luther is known to go big each year on Christmas festivities. His family is known to win the yearly neighborly award for the best Christmas decorations. Luther is romantic and thoughtful when he books a surprise vacation to the Bahamas for his wife. He is also seen to be loving and caring when he pulls all strings together to please her daughter to the point of hurting his leg. Luther had a change of heart after his neighbors came in large numbers to help him organize Blair’s homecoming party.

Nora

Nora is the wife of Luther and mother to Blair. She is known to be loving and kind. She is charitable as seen when persuading her husband to donate to the church as they always do each year. Nora hosts a big party every year to provide for the neighbors. She is also choosy and demanding when she insists to go shopping when it was heavily raining despite her husband's complaints. Nora was very fond of her daughter and felt sad seeing her leave. She was proud of her daughter for being so wise and humble. Nora is a good mother doing everything to ensure she does not disappoint her daughter’s expectations of Christmas.

Blair

She is the daughter of Nora and Luther and the fiancé of Enrique. Blair is young and pretty. She is fresh from graduate school and volunteers to go teach kids how to read and write in Peru. Blair is loving and considered her neighbors as her own family. She is adventurous and charitable like her mother when she sacrifices town life to go teach the less privileged kids in Peru forsaking town life. Blair goes to Peru on a Peace Corps mission where she meets Enrique. She calls to inform her mother about bringing her fiancé which makes her parents and neighbors work together to make Christmas worth remembering. It is through Blair that her father gets a change of heart and starts celebrating Christmas willingly each year.

Vic Frohmeyer

He is the leader of the town and in charge of Christmas festivities and also their next-door neighbor. Vic was also in charge of disciplining children, organizing relief food for poor families, and general organizing in Hemlock town. He has six children and therefore his house was always messy as the children played games all the time in the house. Vic had a job at the university and always worked hard in his flower bed. He mobilized the whole neighborhood to taunt Luther and his family for boycotting Christmas. Vic eventually swoops in to defend Luther when he was arrested and again helped mobilize the neighbors to help in making the Christmas party a success.

Walt Scheel

He is a neighbor to Luther and his family lives across the street. Walt is their rival, always competing with them in terms of owning properties and lifestyle. Walt is sent by Vic to spy and film everything going on in Luther’s family. He is part of the group that taunts Luther for planning to skip Christmas. Walt had always hated Luther’s guts and enjoyed it when Luther was in trouble. His wife was battling breast cancer and together they had two kids who were away in college. Luther gifts Walt their tickets to the Bahama cruise which shocked him as much since they never got along like that.
