Violet
This sister is more intuitive and less structured than her twin, Kate. Violet is more comfortable with her psychic powers, where Kate seems to have established a normal life, ignoring her own shared psychic powers. Violet sees an earthquake coming in the future, and she rushes to tell the media. In other news, Violet is bi-sexual, as Kate learns in the book.
Daisy Kate
Kate is Violet's twin sister who shares her magic powers, but not her willingness to be in the public eye. Besides, Kate has domestic drama that keeps her busy. Although she loves her husband, they often fight, and before long, Kate is in Hank's lap while Jeremy is away.
Jeremy
Kate's husband, Jeremy, is defined by his pragmatic approach, and his work at the university puts him in close proximity with another couple, Courtney and Hank. Since he sees Courtney every day at work, their relationship quickly flourishes into something more romantic. What he doesn't know is that the other two people, Hank and Kate, are doing much the same thing.
Courtney
A friend of Jeremy's with whom she works. The question in the fight toward the end of the novel is whether Jeremy is really just going to his work conference as an excuse to be alone with Courtney, who will also be staying in a hotel at the same conference. The implication is that Courtney is secretly Jeremy's mistress.
Hank
Courtney's husband Hank has a little secret of his own. Since he discovered Kate at his kids' music class, they have been spending more and more time together, until finally, when their spouses are away on their business trip, Hank and Kate end up alone, and they cheat.
