Sisterland Summary

Sisterland Summary

Daisy and Violet Schramm are twin sisters in St. Louis. Daisy (who now goes by her middle name, Kate) marries Jeremy Tucker, with whom she has two children, Rosie, just a toddler, and Owen, who is an infant.

Violet's life is very different from her sister's. For the first time, Kate learns that Violet is bi-sexual, dating a girl named Stephanie. When an earthquake strikes, Violet reveals something else: She has a guardian spirit she named Guardian who is telling her to warn others about a more serious earthquake. Guardian tells her that the earthquake will strike on October 16.

For the couple at home, life is complicated when Kate and Jeremy start spending more and more time with Courtney Wheeling and her husband Hank. Jeremy works with Courtney, so they are close friends, and Kate quickly becomes friends with Hank when they put their kids in the same music classes.

Kate doesn't like when Violet talks about her premonitions, because it reminds her of her own giftedness for foresight, a characteristic that disturbs Kate about herself. She chose a long time ago to forget those powers, but when Violet seems serious about the quake, Kate helps her to get an audience, landing her a spot on the Today Show.

This is not their first time in the spotlight for their prophecies. The girls helped find a missing boy. Kate eventually begins having powerful premonitions about the same day. The day approaches, but Jeremy doesn't take the women seriously. He goes away for the weekend despite their warning, and Kate takes the opportunity to invite over Hank. She sits in his lap and they kiss. One thing leads to another.

Violet's prediction ends up wrong, although there are a long series of earthquakes in the following months, and the date October 16 ends up being a significant day for other reasons. Courtney states that the earth is always busy with something or another.
