improvisational

A style of acting in which much of the dialogue or subject of the scene are made up on the spot; without a pre-written script.

naturalism

A storytelling style that attempts to replicate real life and be as representative of how things might actually have happened as possible.

Beat Generation

Referencing a loosely defined artistic movement highly influenced by the improvisational element of jazz which came of age of the 1950s and gave rise to the pejorative term for its proponents: Beatnik.

interracial

A term characterizing any social interaction in which participants are multicultural or in which there is an integration of two different races.

hipster

Those who considers themselves to be more attuned to the currently popular underground, anti-mainstream aesthetic and situated at the vanguard of a cultural transformation or revolution.

existentialism

A philosophy which views the world as utterly absurd and in which each person must face the reality of being alone and needing to create their own meaning.

embittered

Having grown bitter as a result of an increasing level of resentment.

offbeat

Unusual and original with a decided bias against conformity.

dynamic

Forceful and energetic; full of motion and vigorous energy.

diegetic

Sound heard in a film whose source is portrayed on-screen.

independent

Autonomous and self-governing; outside the mainstream; not beholden to any other authority.

iconoclastic

Free-thinking, radical and revolutionary; someone who openly attempts to knock down conventions and traditions.

patriarch

The dominant male member of a large family.

aspiring

Driving toward a goa; wishful and hopeful of achieving something.

bohemian

Unconventional and non-conforming; a member of the avant-garde.

spontaneous

Impulsive; something done on a spur of the moment; without a calculated plan.

intellectual

Academic and highbrow; a person who overthinks a situation; rational and logical, but lacking the proper degree of emotional application.

boorish

Crude and ill-mannered; loutish; anti-intellectual.

evocative

Highly suggestive; possessing the ability recall a feeling or sense or memory.

ambiance

The emotional tone of the surrounding environment.
