Liv Ullmann
Ullmann plays one of the main roles in the drama as Marianne, the wife in the relationship explored in Bergman's film. Ullmann, a Norwegian born actress who resides in Boston, MA, received the 1972 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role in the film adaptation of Vilhelm Moberg's 'The Emigrants'
Erland Josephson
Josephson, a Swedish actor, plays the role of Johan, Marianne's husband. In a long career in the cinema, he also appeared in Peter Greenaway's exotic adaptation of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' called 'Prospero's Books'.
Bibi Andersson
Andersson portrays Katarina, one half of a couple invited by Johan and Marianne to dinner. Trained at the famed Royal Dramatic Theatre School in Stockholm, Andersson featured in more than 10 of Bergman's film over the course of her career and was the winner of the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1963.
Jan Malmsjö
The husband of Katarina, he is also invited to dinner with Marianne and Johan in Episode 1. Malmsjo has carved out a career as an actor, singer and showbiz impresario in Sweden since his appearance in Bergman's film and, even at the age of 85, is still acting.
Gunnel Lindblom
A friend and colleague of Johan's. Lindblom has had a successful career in cinema with the support of Bergman.
Barbro Hiort af Ornas
Mrs Jacobi is one of Marianne's clients, in her capacity as a family lawyer. Hiort af Ornas was a stage and screen actress who won the Best Actress prize at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival for Bergman's earlier film 'Brink of Life'.
Lena Bergman
Eva's sister, Karin is a minor role. In the film, she is played by Bergman's daughter.
