Rouge Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Mirrors

Mirrors are a prevalent symbol throughout the text because they reoccur in several sections. Noelle's house has large mirrors the size of a door. The mirrors represent Noelle's admiration and reflection. Noelle tells Belle that the person in the mirror is the most beautiful and valued. Consequently, Noelle admires herself and does everything to achieve a perfect skin and body.

Noelle’s Condo

Noelle's condominium is a symbol of her entrepreneurial spirit. Noelle is a hard-working person who fends for herself. Noelle's residential has several units in which she charges monthly fees from business owners. Belle says her mother is a condominium woman, implying she is entrepreneurial and innovative in whatever she does.

Dolls

Dolls are a symbol of Belle's stunning beauty. According to Noelle, Belle looks like a doll because she has seamless and smooth skin. Belle is a mixed-race girl because her mother is white and her mother is Egyptian. Noelle has bought several beautiful dolls and arranged them in Belle's room to remind her that she is stunningly beautiful. Unlike Noelle, who uses skin care products to maintain her skin beauty, Bella is naturally beautiful and does not need any skin care products.
