Director's Influence on Prometheus

Director's Influence on Prometheus

Ridley Scott is the creator of the Alien franchise having directed the first film as a sci-fi horror. The director has become known for his expertise at creating stories of enormous magnitudes and Prometheus is no exception. His style lies in creating a world that we the audience believe we could exist in...even if we are light years away in space or upon a distant planet no human has ever stepped foot on. Scott grounds the characters in a world that visually is accepted by the audience in order to keep them invested emotionally in the story rather than drifting off because of a special effects sequence.

Scott also influences this film by bringing back the horror elements the franchise began with. James Cameron created a film more akin to the action genre for the sequel while other films and spinoffs have attempted their own feel. Scott believes that the pursuit of alien life to be one that will be met with great resistance and thus creates a vividly horrific picture of that pursuit by incorporating models, visual effects and stunts in order to graphically (as possible) show the violence and gruesome acts of human interaction with the alien species. Thus Scott was able to return the franchise to it’s origins while opening up a whole new world and mythology to be explored if further films were to be made.
