    In today's reading, the chorus gives some advice on marriage. What is this advice? What prompts it?

    Io's plight is what prompts the chorus to ruminate on marriage. They say that someone wise once said that people should marry where they belong--the poor shouldn't seek to marry the rich or high-born, for example. This advice seems to apply more to Io's father than to Io, since she was forced into her affair with Zeus since her father thought it would bring his family glory. Mortals should marry mortals, though they recognize that "the desire of stronger gods" cannot easily be escaped.
