Intentional disobedience
Lyle, Marilla, and Dave know that their parents do not allow them to go near the sewer because of the potential dangers. For instance, parents believe that going closer to the sewer without proper garments can pose a health risk to the children. In addition, children can easily drip into the sewer and sustain serious injuries. Ironically, Lyle and his friends disobey their parents to satisfy their curiosity. Consequently, Lyle and his friends intentionally venture into an activity their parents forbid.
Unexpected appreciation by parents
After participating in the most exciting adventure of their lives, Lyle and his friends feel guilty because whatever they did is not morally upright according to their parents. Therefore, Lyle and his friends decide to be honest with their parents and tell them the truth about their experience at the sewer during the installation of the new technology. Lyle and his friends are ready for disciplinary action for their deeds. Ironically, parents are thrilled by their children's experiences. Instead, the parents applaud the kids and thank them for their honesty. However, the parents remind the trio to notify their parents before doing anything like that in the future.
