"Out of All Them Bright Stars" and Other Stories Imagery

Radio

The image of radio which Charlie has stuck up n the top of the movable panel in the ceiling appears from the very first lines, it sings something when the alien enters, and continues singing somethin instrumental, no words, real sad when John leaves the diner. Later, when Sally is alone, the wordless music on the radio reminds her of the “magic touch” of John, and she understands that these “bald blue heads” cannot harm them – ordinary Earth people.

Impression created

When the alien enters the diner, he manages to create a rather stunning impression on the people there: “Kathy freezes and goes on staring with her mouth open like she’s thinking of screaming but forgot how”, the old couple “in the corner booth stop chewing their chocolate cream pie and stare too”. It is obvious that they are afraid, but as it turns out later there is nothing to be afraid of, the alien does not hurt anyone or makes any damage, all his appearance and behavior is nothing but polite and friendly.

The touch

Finding out that the alien is in his diner Charlie rushes from the kitchen looking red and furious. He grabs Sally’s arm and squeezes it really hardly that the nails slice into Sally skin. When John leaves the diner he touches Sally’s arm where Charlie squeezed it “touches it with the palm, and the palm’s not slimy at all – dry, and sort of cool”. The image os the palm and the touch is created to show that the aliens carry no hostility to Earth people.
