Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In Characters

Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In Character List

Bernie Sanders

Naturally, Bernie Sanders is the main character of the book. And because he wrote the book, he serves as its narrator.

For most of his life, Sanders has been in public service: first as the mayor for Burlington, Vermont, then as Vermont's sole member of the House of Representatives for 16 years, then as a Senator from Vermont for over 13 years. Beyond that, Sanders has endeavored to become President of the United States - first in 2016 and again in 2020. Although he failed both times (his failure in 2016, though, became the basis for this book), Sanders has, in his words, started a "revolution."

Although he has a number of detractors, there is no doubt that Sanders is an intelligent, thoughtful, and hard-working man who has been able to create a loyal base of supporters.

Donald Trump

Although there isn't a true antagonist in Sanders' book, Donald Trump comes the closest to being an antagonist.

A businessman and real estate mogul, Trump is portrayed by Sanders as an idiotic bully with a horrible vision for the country.

Like Sanders, Trump has a number of very vocal detractors. And like Sanders, Trump had what most considered to be a fringe campaign. Still, there is no doubt that he is a rather unique person with a profound gift for rhetoric and a well-defined vision that galvanized a tremendous amount of support for him and his presidency, which ultimately led to him winning the 2016 Presidential Election, where he beat out Sanders and Hillary Clinton (the two leading Democrats).

Hillary Clinton

Initially, Hillary Clinton was portrayed as a villain in the book because she was Sanders' primary opponent in the 2016 Democratic Primaries. After Clinton won the Primaries - some said that she stole the Primaries for Sanders - Sanders began to campaign for Clinton in earnest, fearing that a Donald Trump presidency would be disastrous for the country.
