One Last Stop Irony

One Last Stop Irony

The paradox of the New York Subway

The New York subway is a busy terminus. Ironically, the author abruptly changes the New York subway into a sexy and magical point where August sees Jane and their sparkling eyes symbolize romance. Due to human traffic in the subway, the reader does not expect people to have time for romance because every passenger is on the move.

The irony of August’s expectations in college in New York

August goes to New York to study and discover her purpose in life. Ironically, August does not intend to form any friendship with her college roommates! The reader comprehends that long-term friendship can lead to romance. Paradoxically, August has a contrary view because she looks forward to meeting her life partner from an unknown place.

The satire of June's presence in Q train

June's presence in Q Train is satirical because, despite her frequent appearance, there seems no one noticing her. The author reminds readers that June is a time traveller, implying that she is a familiar figure in the Q train. Therefore, the reader finds it satirical that only August noticed her and immediately fell in love.

The irony of time

Time is a sardonic aspect in the entire novel, and it creates a conflict between August's attempts to help June recover from her past. For instance, August is determined to fight for June's love, but she realizes that June lives in the past. Consequently, it is ironic that August is determined to pursue Jane despite her current circumstances.
