Structure:
In this section of One Hundred Years of Solitude, the fight between the Liberals and the Conservatives causes conflict within Macondo. Capitalism also visits Macondo and has significant consequences. In order to deeply understand the conflicts arising in the novel, students need to have some understanding of capitalism and communism.
