One Day in Auschwitz Imagery

One Day in Auschwitz Imagery

Those who died

The film begins with a succession of pictures of Jews who have been sent to Auschwitz and who eventually died. The people showed in those pictures are all smiling and happy and from different age groups. This image is extremely important because it transmits the idea that no one is safe and that the stories told in the film are real ones.

First impact

Kitty describes the first image which welcomed her when arriving at Auschwitz and that was the picture of countless people, all looking the same, with shaved heads and with rags instead of clothes. This image introduces Kitty to the lives at Auschwitz and the horrors she will have to endure.

Small children with tattoos

Another important image appears in the middle of the film when the main character talks about the fate of the children. The viewer is then shown a black and white video portraying small children, under 10 years old and showing their tattoos. This image is extremely moving because it shows that no one, not even the small children were spared by complete annihilation.

Accepting one's death

Another important image is described by Kitty who talks about the time when she and her mother were sentenced to death. Kitty, her mother and the rest of the people who were sentenced to death were told to face a wall and each and every one of them were prepared to die. Still, despite the tense situation, Kitty and the rest of the people are prepared to die and face this opportunity with dignity.
