In what ways has individuality been integrally important for your own happiness? How would you be different had you not been allowed to freely express your personality?
Students will need to draw upon their own personal experiences while answering this question, but some students may focus more on the second, counterfactual aspect of the question. Accordingly, instead of providing a simple anecdote about a time that they asserted their individuality, they may try to recount an instance in which not being able to assert their individuality could have been bad for them. An excellent, if sensitive, example of this is coming out as gay or trans.
