Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg Analysis

Ginsburg once famously said “Women will only have true equality when men share with them the responsibility of bringing up the next generation.” This phrase and its profound meaning is emulated throughout the pages of this book.

Ginsburg highlights the unfairness of women throughout many of her legal cases, such as the ability to receive equal housing, be a member of the military, be in receipt of insurance and the inability to make their own choices with their bodies.

Ginsburg was once questioned when there would be enough women in the Supreme Court, and she responded, "When there are nine.” This is showing that there is no one end point in trying to gain equality. It is achieved when women are able to permeate through every sector of life with equal access as men.

But Ginsburg was not unfair with her quest to achieve a more equal world. She fought for the rights of men as well, as depicted by her success in Moritz v. Commissioner (1972) which saw Charles Moritz receive a carer’s insurance deduction for her sick mother, which would otherwise have not been offered to him simply based on his gender.
