Nashville Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Success

The movie focus on different people and how they fit into society concerning how well they have done in life. You have several groups in the movie, including the rich on the top, the young people in the middle trying to gain a foothold for success, professional musicians at the bottom, and people who want to be musicians.

Women

Women are a central part of the movie and are liked for several reasons except for being themselves. It is either because of their talent or their beauty, but never simply for being themselves. None of the female revolution has reached Nashville and they live in a world like most women still live in.

Politics

Politics play a vital role, and we can see this especially through the assassination. The portrayal of the assassin is also very special as it is not a surprise but more of a new way to learn about the character and characters since they are faced with a new situation.

Rivalry

The struggle to make it big is a central part of the movie as we have seen through the success symbolism. The movie is filled with rivalry, and there is a fight both between talented people and people who wish they were talented. How far can one go when pursuing a dream, and where does the line go between right and wrong?

A Small World

There are 24 different characters in the movie that spans across 5 days, but they are all interconnected. We get to see the consequences of actions that might span across all 24 characters and have unforeseen ways of affecting people. The movie is elegantly made so despite the many characters we get insight into a lot of their relations with each other.
