What are some of the contradictions that Douglass observes between Mr. Covey's fervent religiosity and his practices as a slaveowner? Why do you think Mr. Covey doesn't see these contradictions?
Douglass observes that Mr. Covey is a habitual liar in spite of his so-called piety. Even worse, Mr. Covey fostered and facilitated the sin of adultery within his household by buying a female slave with the express intention of getting her pregnant.
