    12 Years a Slave Film Screening, Pt. III

    Objective:

    To compare the crucial elements of different slave narratives and how they are adapted for other media.

    Structure:

    In this final day of screening 12 Years a Slave, teachers should show the last third of the movie to the class.

    Before the teacher starts the film, he/she should encourage students to take notes during the film about the following topics:

    1. Why are historical films about slavery important? Can film help Americans understand slavery in ways that books cannot, and vice versa?
