Elaine
Elaine is Paul's wife. She is also having an affair with her old friend Liz whose daughter babysits for Elaine and Paul. Elaine is a stay at home mother for the most part, which she doesn't enjoy one bit. Her husband doesn't intrigue her anymore, and by the end of the novel, she and her husband spontaneously burn their house down.
Paul
An obsessive man with a crush on Henry's girlfriend. Paul also likes his wife, but his wife isn't really interested in him anymore. He finds his kicks by having phone sex with Henry's girlfriend, which Henry doesn't mind, actually. Even though he spends the entire novel praising the virtues of suburban life, Paul and his wife burn his house down on a whim.
Jennifer
A naughty-mouthed, underaged babysitter whose mother is Liz, Elaine's old friend. Jennifer babysits for Elaine, watching their two boys when Paul and Elaine go out. Jennifer tells Paul that Liz and Elaine are actually lesbian girlfriends, and when they hang out, they have lots of sex.
Liz
Liz is a friend of Elaine's, and as Paul learns in the novel, she is also Elaine's sexual partner. Elaine has been having affair with this woman, who is apparently bisexual.
Henry
Henry is a swanky guy with an attractive girlfriend. When Paul becomes infatuated with Henry's girlfriend, he also becomes a little obsessed with this man. By the end of the novel, Henry and Paul have had some very intimate phone conversations with Henry's girlfriend.
Henry's girlfriend
This woman is apparently very attractive. She's described by the couple as a trophy, and Paul is immediately fascinated by her. Although the couples stay with each other, Henry's girlfriend is willing to have a fling with Paul. She's not shy either; she invites Henry himself in on the extra-marital games.
