Midnight Traveler is a documentary that features Fazili and his family. Fazili has been threatened by the Taliban terror group. As a result, he decides to move to Tajikistan to seek asylum. At Tajikistan, his asylum application is denied forcing him to get back to Afghanistan. Fazili and his family are forced by circumstances to move from one country to another looking for asylum. Along the way, they join other refugees. The life of looking for asylum is difficult. Fazili and other refugees experience every kind of hardship. Despite all these challenges, Fazili and his wife record themselves using cellphones.
The journey across European countries is tedious. Some scenes show his daughters crying due to boredom. Additionally, Fatima Hussaini, Fazili’s wife can be seen crying when a trafficker threatens to abduct her daughters. These scenes show the hardships endured by refugees as they flee their countries looking for a better future. Some scenes show the refugees sleeping on the ground. Refugees go through many sufferings.
The audience gets a clear picture of experiences witnessed by refugees. For instance, some scenes show them crawling on fences. In Bulgaria, the refugees are confronted by a violent mob in the city streets. Zahra can be seen as having bedbug bites. Such experiences make the audience sympathize with refugees. Refugees are humans and should not be subjected to cruelty.
